How to Play WordHeat
WordHeat is a semantic word guessing game. Instead of guessing letters like in Wordle, you guess meanings. The AI ranks each guess by how close it is in meaning to a hidden secret word.
The rules
- Every day there's one secret word for everyone, worldwide.
- Type any English word and submit it.
- The game returns a rank — lower is closer to the secret word.
- Rank #1 means you found it.
- Use the ranks of previous guesses to narrow in on the meaning.
Reading the heat
Each guess is color-coded by its rank so you can see at a glance whether you're getting warmer or colder:
- FOUND — rank #1, you win.
- BURNING — rank 2–10, you're right on top of it.
- HOT — rank 11–50, very close.
- WARM — rank 51–200, same neighborhood.
- COOL — rank 201–1000, somewhat related.
- COLD — rank 1001–5000, distant.
- FREEZING — rank 5000+, far off.
Winning strategies
- Start broad. Open with category words like animal, food, place, or technology to map the territory.
- Think in clusters. When a guess ranks warm, try 5–6 words in the same semantic cluster before switching topics.
- Watch for jumps. A big rank change between two guesses means you crossed into a new meaning zone.
- Use synonyms and associations. The AI ranks by context, so related objects and concepts count too.
How the AI works
WordHeat uses GloVe word embeddings — vectors trained on billions of words of text. Words that appear in similar contexts end up close together in vector space, and the game ranks your guesses by cosine similarity to the secret word.
